How do I connect two phones?

Make sure both devices are on the same WiFi network, then open the app on both.

On the device that stays with your baby, choose Camera and point it at the crib. On the device you keep with you, choose Parent. The two find each other automatically and the live feed starts within a few seconds.

The phones don’t see each other. What should I check?

Three things solve this in almost every case:

1. Same network. Both devices must be on the same WiFi. Watch out for homes with two network names (for example a main and a guest network, or separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz names) and make sure one device isn’t on mobile data.

2. No VPN. A VPN on either device routes traffic away from the local network and hides the devices from each other. Turn VPNs off while monitoring.

3. Local Network permission. On iPhone and iPad, iOS asks for “Local Network” access the first time. If it was declined, enable it in Settings → Apps → Private Baby Monitor → Local Network, then reopen the app. Android phones use the local network without that prompt, so there is nothing to enable there.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. The connection is made directly between your two devices across your WiFi router, so the router only needs power, not an internet connection. Internet outage at 2 a.m.? The monitor doesn’t notice.

Is the video really private?

Yes, by design. The stream travels peer to peer from the camera device to the parent device over your local network, encrypted in transit. It is never sent to a server, ours or anyone else’s, and nothing is recorded unless you tap capture, in which case it saves only to your own photo library.

The details are in our privacy policy.
